As a creative producer, I’m responsible for any and everything that needs to happen in order for the shoot to happen. It’s different every time and that’s part of the joy for me. There’s a real art to video production as I’m working to cast, crew and manage moving pieces that fit a particular story, and which story fits a creative ask. Outside of the logistics of crewing, casting, managing shoot schedules, craft services, budgets, licensing, permitting, insurance, visual effects, set design, location scouting, and on and on, the real work for me is making sure everything between the line items fits into the creative ask. Its intentional, personal, and built on years of experience. In essence, it’s not about getting the shot, it’s about how that shot works within the larger pieces I’m managing. I love the close work I get steeped in with talented directors, and I come to life making sure their vision is achieved. It’s sometimes an invisible work, but it’s the kind of work that makes it worth it.
They call producers the ‘mom’ of the production. Sounds about right.
